In 1978, David Smeltz co-founded and started the first American Reggae band in the state of Ohio and quite possibly the Midwest. The reggae band, I-tal, has entertained audiences for over 40 years. In 2018, David released a 9 song CD entitled "Recovered" on his Smeltz Good Music label. He currently entertains audiences accoustically and most recently formed his 3 piece band the "Smeltztones" and 7 member "Dave Smeltz Project" .
In 2010, David started a 501(c) 3 non profit named Clean House Inc.for men recovering from alcohol and substance abuse in which he serves as Executive Director. Clean House also functions as a center for 12 step recovery and martial arts instruction.
David's first book "Clean: From Reggae to Recovery" was released in April 2014. He has also written two subsequent booklets entitled "Just Sit Down (and shut up)" and "Step Away From The Vehicle". David believes in the integration of body, mind , and spirit. He leads a mostly vegan lifestyle and incorporates martial arts, nutrition, and music as a positive and healthy way of life.
